hermaphrodite brig Centurion
hi,
Does anyone know what happened to the 'Centurion'?
She is pìctured in the early editions of Othmar Schaeuffelen's book.
a very pretty wooden staysail schooner
about 55 feet on deck,
with a couple of squaresails - red with Maltese Crosses.
Said to have been built in the late 30s but laid up for the duration of WW2.
I crewed on her in the first
'Tall Yachts Race around the Island of Grenada' -
For a while there we had a hot tacking duel with 'Ring Andersen'
fro m the Bahamas, until
we busted the steering
but finished the race - dead last,
we
were too pooped to go to the party - our cook collected the booby prize...
this was in the winter of 68/69
owner was a Mr. Miller from Monaco.
I saw Centurion two years later in Ft, Lauderdale, Florida,
looking sadly neglected.
any lead is appreciated!
