Here in Gijon there is a Jouet 22 for sale any of our Francofiles have an opinion on the boat, thanks, merci?

After detailed research a quick flick through various pics of the model, I offer the following analysis -

- Looks sporty, but definitely not beautiful
- Being sporty is a mixed blessing
- Good space inside for the size, including what appears to be a useable forward double berth (not all of them are!)
- Going over the cabin top will be much worse than, to pluck an example out of the air, going along the narrow side decks on the Daimo(?) :D. (You would definitely be doing all the foredeck work yourself, so maybe that doesn't matter?)
- Mainsheet track across the middle of the cockpit is a pain, probably quite literally at times. Such things may be worth putting up with if racing were your main bag, but pointless otherwise.
- Not as good looking as what I assume is the earlier Jouet Golif 22, not to mention the Daimo :devilish:.
- You could have fun in it, despite its shortcomings,

Yes I take your detailed analysis onboard certainly sporty which is totally against my charachter but could be a new lease of life so to speak?Gijon is not that far andan interesting place to spend time in and the boat has watertight bulkheads ready for when I set off on my Atlanticvoyage?

Gijon is not that far andan interesting place to spend time in

I now suspect that the prime motivation for your quest is actually nice days out in scenic places, without all the tedium of having to visit castles/palaces/museums (seen one, you've seen 'em all) or, indeed, the cost and complications of boat ownership.

More power to your elbow. Have a fun day out!

(p.s. Can one obtain goujons in Gijon?)

No idea?……..but we are vaguely serious about a boat but the stars have to coincide and I must admit with the situation in Europe and my daughter newly moved to Madrid other factors are playing their role

Little sister probably not wrong about it being a bit sporty; a Paul Elvstrom design, I seem to think that at least one participated in the early days of the Mini Transat (from 1977), so you may be able to fulfil your ambitions for ocean voyaging.

Anyhoo, I thought we had decided on an Oyster…..

Yes the design was fora minitransat as mentioned in the ad……..theOyster well a bit bland?

If mini transat is what you’re after, here’s a couple of shots of a 6.50 scow. There was a jamboree in Saint Quay yesterday to launch local lad Hugo Mahieu’s campaign for 2023

Certainly literally throwing the kitchen sink out you can create good small seagoing boats these days, there seems quite a rash of them now.the scow type bow being a logical progression
