Was going to pop up river on the last Saturday of Heners!!! I know you can moor up in the middle of the River on the central piers they put in.

Can’t remember if you need a ticket for it and what time you can start to tie up.

Been up in the past on other boats so not paid any attention.

I know they leave Hambledon Lock manned until about midnight I think.

Anyone have the details?

Peter

From what I remember from a long time back you do need a ticket to get in but I heard that boaters can get a special pass which is different to the ticket you buy in advance.

A freind of mine had a spare pass one year for a girl he wanted to impress until he was asked to give it up for Prince Andrew!.

Now where is that Brendan hiding?

No ticket required, but only open small boats can moor to the piles during the racing. Saturday evening anyone can moor to the piles for free and watch the fireworks, you can even stay there overnight. The midnight rush to the lock gets a bit silly, the speed limit suddenly seems to expire, i've seen boats on the plane above marsh lock!
Its a great atmosphere though, we'll be there hopefully.

any idea on times for mooring - was aiming for about 6pm ??? earlier if possible.

You can moor up from about 6 onwards, basicaly as soon as the racing finishes, but fireworks aren't until 10pm so can be a long wait. The EA come along and hand out leaflets to all boats on the piles with the exact procedures for leaving etc.. If you do stay there overnight don't expect much sleep and of course you will have to leave early, not so easy with the inevitable hangover. We always nip through the lock and find a secluded mooring, but this might not be so easy for a larger boat at midnight, all good fun though!
