Henley Regatta Moorings

Did you know the chaps on 'Australias Possum' then ? lovely guys , can't for the life of me remember their names , but they were always very friendly to us.

Here is a photo of three people , two of whom may or may not be members of this forum ;) , retrieving the 'monster hand' shortly after it was thrown from the flybridge of the boat onto the bowling green ......

Alastaire was as much an Aussie as Mao Tse-tung was a Californian Hippy. Although undeniably he had spent many years there. A Porter at Oxford University he was an absolute master at extracting drinks out of any assemblage and obtaining credit from a stone. He would organise strangers to go out for a meal but will have disappeared when the bill came.
Those that knew him well kept him at a boat hooks length. yes he was entertaining but it cost.

Dear All,

Just joined up to clarify a few errors in this post.
Fawley Meadows is owned by the regatta itself, as is all the land on which the Enclosure is built, and much of the land behined it. I am sure that more than enough is paid in rates on this to avoid "rattling the tins"!!

The EA is a navigation authority and may only charge for "habour activities" under the TC Act 1932 (I think). I am not clear under what circumstance you feel that additional fees should/would be charged.

The best scenario (but not the cheapest) is to rent a morrning on Fawley Meadows from HRR, the space (and two parking spaces) will be yours for the week, marked up as such and patrolled.

Ouch, just got the quote for Fawley Meadows - £22 per foot!

I am considering staying near Hurley and taking a chance on the metered moorings in Henley - has anybody done this?
