Just thinking I might go down to Henley and wondering if anybody knows if you can moor near enough to hear the music and whether you can see anything as assume the stage backs onto the river
All you can see is the "promenaders", ie the paying customers, but you can hear the music well enough and see the spectaculars and the fireworks. Well worth the visit and to find a kindly sole on the booms in the middle of the river who will let you moor alongside.
This is the latest EA position on the festival - basically your can moor to the booms but will need to be careful because of the river conditions. This info is on our website.
We are currently allowing boats to moor next to the booms during Henley festival, however the stream is still stronger than usual for this time of year, and it may be necessary for us to review this decision, dependant not only on stream conditions but also wind conditions and the number and type of boats wishing to moor in this area. Unless conditions drastically change this will be the position for the rest of the week.
More rain is due throughout the week with thundery and heavy showers predicted for Sunday.
Boats mooring next to the booms, will be managed much tighter than normal. Boats will need to be spread out as much as possible. Large groups of boats in one area may be asked to move. Boats will also be asked to use their anchors more.
The course structure is fragile and will not withstand the weight of moored vessels in strong stream conditions. The booms could easily break adrift.
We will still be reviewing the situation on a daily basis and updating the info line and website as necessary.
