Nearly ran out of fuel , as had a bit of a bugger coming back against the NE couple of weeks ago. Made it back to our mooring on Itchenor reach , late. Locked up went home. No problem next time fuel up straight away. So off to Chichester marina ,just up the way. Radioed ahead with my intentions only to be told I had to pay for a visitor's birth if I wasn't a birth holder. I've been going in there for years, came as quite a shock. Luckily made it to Sparks , on fumes, who were only to happy to take my dosh.

I gave up on fuelling in marinas years ago. Always have a can of white road diesel pre-dosed with marine 16 in the lazarette. 2 reasons, a) easy refuelling after any decent motoring and usually a good reserve in the can, b) I subscribe to the idea that bug normally comes from slow moving untreated bunker tanks ie marina bunkers. If you do it this way you almost always know you’ve got a clean fuel reserve unless you are far from a fuel point or push your range.

there’s little/no profit in fuel so it kind of makes sense to me! I’m not sure I’d have risked running out for the cost of whatever their day visitor rate is.

That sounds most unreasonable - they charge none berth holders more for fuel than berth holders, and so will be making a profit from your visit. If you're locking in, filling up and then locking out, you're not even occupying a visitors berth. I'm disappointed at Premier for that decision.
