I am going to collect some new batteries for Beyond Reason today. They should be exactly the same as the existing ones which have lasted about 8 years. Is this a record?

I think they are going to be too heavy for me to woman handle into position and fit so I wondered if there was a helpful person in Suffolk Harbour who could help me? Any weekend would do.

Hi Bernie
If you get stuck, I can pop round and do some carrying as I live, work and keep the boat in the Ipswich area.

Thanks Duncan. Sadly I need a little more than help with carrying them from the boat to the car. I can use a trolley for that. I really need someone who is willing and able to climb into my capacious cockpit locker and manouvre the old batteries out and the new ones in as they are too heavy for me. Perhaps I should have made that a bit clearer in the original post. :o

May well be at SYH on Sunday if you still have problems please call.

PM sent, not. Call 07717 864374 if you are stuck, if not beer, wine, coffee, tea, available :)

Ian & Jo

Thanks Ian. My son is threatening me with a visit over the weekend but hasn't told me when, so I'm not sure when I will be at SYH yet. If I am likely to be around on Sunday I will give you a shout. Mailbox should have some capacity now.

:o:o

Batteries are ridiculously heavy. I really struggled with mine last year, risking weeks at the physios. Mine are under the aft berths below the cockpit floor so have no lifting height. Boat fixing seems to be much about pain and suffering as actual mechanical expertise. Hope you get some help.

Yep, I could do the trolley to final position bit. I meant that, whilst I'm not based at SYH, I could be there pretty easily whenever suited as I'm always in the area whereas others live and work elsewhere.

I should be at Levington from Saturday afternoon until Tuesday and volunteer to assist with batteries. My boat, a Colvic Atlanta 32 is on the hard, on the right as you approach the lightship. Dark blue hull, red antifouling and white superstructure and called Dorek. If the ladder is up then I am about and will be gratefull to stop working to have a coffee with any forumites.

PM sent to Bernie.

Overwhelmed by all the amazing kind offers of assistance, I decided to wait for the next free (no work) and dry (so I could empty out the cockpit locker) weekend. I'm still waiting.

So huge apologies to all those kind people who have offered assistance. My new batteries are still in the boot of my car and I'm no further forward.

I am hoping that when I eventually get around to visiting the Orwell again there will still be some kind soul willing to help me with the batteries.
