Bending over stern working on outboard in marina when 'plop' my expensive stainless steel watch came unclipped and dropped into minimum 2 metres depth of silty mud! Non magnetic special present from SWMBO several years ago.
Any helpful advice, apart from leave home quickly?

Go down to your local, get your mates to beat you up a bit, tell her you've been mugged! It will be far less painful!

Seriously tho, might be worth an hour of a professional Diver's time...

Only chance was to go straight in after it. Silty mud, a couple of tides, its gone. Find another watch as similar as possible, and hope she doesn't look to closely!

PS Whatever the smart yottie mag adverts may imply, boating and expensive watches are totally incompatible.

Go and buy a garden rake and start fishing from the dinghy at low water.

Don't give up too soon, it is not going to float away.

I lost an important stainless fitting overboard - fell from quite a height. I was amazed that at low water it was sitting on top of the mud. I know your marina doesn't dry out, but don't dispair, it is probably on top of the mud waiting for someone to swim down and get it.

Mind you, I would be amazed if it isn't covered on your household contents policy - I know it won't be the same one but...?

Good luck.

Use a long tined garden rake of the sort that is used for raking leaves. I lost a stainless adjustable spanner in similar circumstances and managed to hook it back one day later.
Good luck
Morgan

A fisherman's long-handled landing net might be worth a try but, if possible, LOOK for it first as any raking, netting etc could start by pushing it deeper into the silt.
