I have PM'd Volvopaul but wondered if others may be able to help me with a couple of problems I have with my TAMD63P's:-

1) At relaunch after AF this year the port 12V generator seems to have packed up, 11v at panel with engine running and battery alarm indicator on. Where is the best place in the UK that I can get an exchange generator or better still the old unit servicd/repaired?

2) Today, daft self created problem:- I changed the main fuel filters I had two 10 micron elements spare so replaced the old 30 micron elements fitted to both engines, I then vented the port engine at the air bleed on the engine fuel filters, got distracted for a while, returned and started both engines without venting STB. Both started fine then port stopped, I suspect due to an air lock. I have bled off at the engine filters and also at the overflow valve but the blasted engine will not start? Any ideas? Where should I vent next? No signs of fuel bug etc in the system.

All pointers, help, guidance and advice as always much appreciated.

I suppose with 2) above I'm going to have to bleed at the injectors, never done this before, I believe the procedure is to loosen all injector feed pipes two turns, crank engine, wait until one squirts then tighten it, crank engine until second squirts or engine starts, tighten it, and so on. Any advice welcome, how drenched will the engine get with fuel?

Started bleeding fuel through this morning, opened lines to 6 injectors, turned over engine, it took some time to get the fuel through but starter motor didn't seem too bothered. As fuel reached each injector, I tightened the nut and once 4 were sealed, the engine started, tightened remaining 2 and off she went sweet as ever. Don't think I will forget to vent after fitting new filters again. So that was one problem sorted.

The alternator on STB engine started to work again when the revs increased to 2500, still working when reduced to tickover and when restarted a second time. Seems a bit low, charging at around the 13v mark, could it have been cr*p on the brushes I wonder? Anyway, will leave it on for now and keep an eye on it but will also buy a spare.

Thanks to those that helped.

John

If you are going down the Volvo route then get an exchange unit from your local dealer he does not really need the old one back and they are new units remember to get a pulley as well.
