HELP WITH SEA WOLF ANCHOR WINCH

I need some bits - (magnets for the motor) for a 24V seawolf anchor winch - Any information on where I might find them - or Seawolf if they are still about would be gratefully received. 'specially as I will have to rip the boat apart to fit a modern winch cos my marine engineer tells me that the fittings are all different these days.

I take it that the pole pieces have just lost their magnetism. Why not get them remagnetised....however my help runs out there since I don't have a clue where you would get them remagnetised best of luck

The first question I need to ask is why do you need new magnets? If it is because you have poked a metalic bit against them and they did not attract said bit, do not be duely concerned! There are some types of motors, typically ones that have a high torque ( trains etc )that have electrical coils that magnetise the ferrites or magnet pieces when it is in use. To explain why I do not suspect the magnets have lost their magnetism, you can break magnets up, and the parts still stay magnetised, also some magnetsyou can heat upto near melting point where they loose magnetism, that returns just as strong when it cools down ( soldering iron a typical use ). If you need any further information, I will need more specific info from you. Good luck!

Thanks for the advise, however the marine engineer who took the winch off to repair it said that the magnets had broken off and as the motor was 20 years old would not be replacable.

Do you believe him ? There is a whole range of magnet shapes and sizes that can be bought ex-stock. Get a sample of the magnet and try to match. There are many liquid engineering solutions for permanent glueing of the magnets where they need to stay. I will forward you a contact for the magnets later this week (no catalog to hand & cannot remember the company name).
