I have got a bust Sea Wolf anchor winch circa 1982 which was originally made by Simpson Lawrence. I tried to obtain a replacement before they went bust last year with no success. There must be someone somewhere who can fix this thing - any ideas.....

WHats wrong with it?

Is it just ceased up?

Before you consign it to the bin, I took mine to bits and just replaced the bearings which are standard sizes. It works a treat now.

You should be able to find a Bearing supplier in yellow pages, I found an excellent one in Slough.

As these things sit on the bow, they get Seawater over them a lot and will be prone to ceasing again, therefore its useful to know how they work.

It's a bit complicated but this is the gist of the Simpson Lawrence story.

Simpson Lawrence Distribution was sold by Clyde Marine plc (the parent company) to Sowester. Sowester became Sowester Simpson-Lawrence and then went bust.

Clyde Marine plc retained the Simpson Lawrence brand name and they continue to manufacture windlasses with that name. They are distributed through Lewmar who are also part of Clyde Marine.

What I am coming to in a very round about way is that if you contacted Lewmar, they may be able to help you with your old windlass. They have an excellent web site at www.lewmar.com and contact details are there.

Good luck.
