Help with carb

My carb has been serviced as the accelerator pump had broke. The carb was refitted and the connection to the automatic choke was repaired ( it hadn't worked since I had the boat). It worked fine the first two times.

When I started it myself the engine goes straight to full throttle no matter what I do with the throttle lever. Everything has been checked outside the pump, apart from the choke.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I am convinced the automatic choke is at fault, but any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Sean

A bit more info will help, motor and carb type. Have you checked to see if the throttle plate is open or closed, if open your problem is the linkage, if closed its in the carb, if the choke flap is closed it should start but not give full throttle, if its fully open then starting would be a bit harder. As I said more info and I may be able to diagnose it for you.

Thinking about it, it may not be exactly full throttle, because I pushed the lever forward to see if it would free it up and it revved further.

The engine is a Volvo AQ205 V6 petrol, the carb is a Rochester Quadrajet. It is starting very easily, but goes straight to full throttle. I haven't re opened the carb yet, but have checked the return springs are working. The throttle linkage is moving perfectly. It did work correctly the first time it was re fitted. The only thing that has changed is that the electrical connection to the autochoke was broken. I have always had to use the throttle to keep it running when cold and the go to neutral after a couple of minutes. The connection was repaired as part of the re fit and now t is doing something for the first time in 3 years.....

I have arranged for someone to take the choke apart etc and look/ service it. I realise I am not being that helpful.

I don't think the choke will make it rev as high as you say
is your throttle cable free, when the carb was refitted was a new manifold gasket fitted, air getting in can cause over revving
has the float chamber tampered with, I've known people forget to fit the needle valve so fuel pours in
a worn throttle spindle can jam the throttle butterfly open

The choke will also increase the revs when the engine is cold to stop stalling, this is usually adjustable which may be worth checking (could you disconnect the supply to the choke to test this?)
A pipe missing from the inlet manifold can also create the same problem.
