Help with a Simrad RS25 DSC vhf please

Are there any other owners of the above radio who can help me decipher what appears to be the most un-user friendly and even more un-user friendly manual for this radio. The problem I am having is not understanding when after pressing any key to acknowledge an incoming call, followed by pressing the enter key, as in the instructions on page 37 of the manual, whether it should automatically go to the senders nominated working channel.

I am pretty sure that you have to select the channel.
I had an earlier model which was just as unfriendly.Eventually the non-replacable internal battery died and I had an excuse to junk it.
