I have a sick hydraulic anchor winch to look at. It was made by Hyland Engineering of Wakefield. Does anyone know whether they are still trading, or who bought them out?

Cheers,
David

Hyland Eng. was taken over by Vickers in 1952 they sold on the product to K&L precision Eng. in 1967. They were nationalised about 1972. They were privatised but I lost track of them.I served my apprenticeship with them from 1953.If you go to www.yachtagentur-kiel.de/klassiker there is a yacht for sale with a extra heavey type windlass is this similar to yours,If it is then try www.mrsimpson.co.uk/ghost. Silver Ghost is moored in Ipswich and has similar windlass maybe they could help you with copies of their drawings. One or two things that may help. The older systems did not have a header tank, So if you fit a tank(a 5 gallon oil drum ismore than big enough) slightly higher than the windlass run a pipe down to the pump, this could be plastic hose pipe, this will give a head of oil to the pump.Other problems could be related to the pump, maybe broken springs or too much lift on the inlet valves, which I think will be steal balls. The lift should be 0.100 inch or 2.5m/m
