Hi everyone,
Have seen a Hurth HBW gearbox for sale at a good price and wonder if it will fit our boat.
Our engine is a Perkins 4108 and our gearbox has been making some worrying noises this season.
From what I can see of ours it looks the same but its a bit inaccessible so I wondered if anyone has the same set up as us or knows if it will fit.
The only info on the one for sale is that its been used for 108 hours and the prop sizes are 18 x12.
It's a Hurth 1.25.2R. Is this suitable for a 50hp engine?
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks

Can't see a reference to a 125 - only a 100 or a 150. Former rated to max 55hp for pleasure use, and the latter to 77hp. Both available with 3 different reduction ratios. So whether it is suitable for your installation will depend on the reduction ratio and whether it physically fits onto your bell housing. Perhaps sensible to check with the manufacturer or dealer.

Thanks Tranona! The ad says the ratio is 2.1 forward gear 2.14 reverse 1.95. Can't check with a dealer as the item is on ebay ending tomorrow :(
Was fitted to a Leyland 1.8 diesel it says in the ad.
It looks the same as ours - from what we can tell - fittings all look the same.
Anyone got one the same????

I don't want to rain on your parade... but. I replaced our old Hurth 100 on our 4108 earlier this year as it was slipping. I replaced it with a new ZF10m.The new gearbox was a straight swap except it was 5mm longer so I had to reduce the the depth of a packer between gearbox and coupling. I am really pleased with the new transmission, much quieter.
The problem with eBay second hand gearboxes is you don't know the history and last thing you want is to take the time to fit it and find it is no better than the gearbox you are replacing. I looked a refurbishing our old Hurth with new clutch plates etc, it was only £100 more for a the new ZF10m...no brainer really.

PM if you want anymore info.

+1
I did the same but also fitted a new thruster plate at the same time.

Hurth 100 2R for a 50hp engine ????

Agree with 'slipstream' for the price differance of a reconditioned Hurth gearbox to new ZF10 gearbox, buy new!
