Hi everybody, new to the forum, so hello and fair winds. I have bought an old Windy 525 to restore and potter around in. I bought her in france and on the certificate of sail her registration number is TL247660. While rubbing down prior to painting, I have found the number MN247660 painted on the bow. Anyone have any ideas as to why the letters have been changed? or what the letters mean? Any info on this lovely old class would be appreciated.

The two sets of numbers both appear to be French registration numbers. From memory (and it's nowhere as good as it used to be) TL is Toulon - I think. Appears to have been reregistered at some stage and the old numbers painted out. It's fairly easy I understand to register on the SSR but I'm sure someone will be along soon with more specific knowledge. Happy restoration!

MN might be Marennes. But you can still use an SSR. Quite popular here, even by French resident nationals...

To add: when you change the ownership, if you are in a different 'port of attachment' then the letters will change. I am 'attached' to LR, La Rochelle.

hi downwest, yes i thought MN was marennes, libellule has had only 2 owners, the first lived in fontagnes 15140, you couldnt get more landlocked! but quite feasible he kept her in that part of france. the second lived in bordeaux, but has since moved to morocco, the purchaser of the house just wanted rid of the boat, hence the low price. i have now found out she was built in 1974, 3 years after the original. i hope sailing her is as much fun as tracing her history!
