Hi

Out of interest (to me anyway) here are my results on a recent channel crossing (Brighton to Dieppe) Handicap 948 time finished 20:28:43 time elapsed 13:28:43 corrected time 14:13:05

I am interested to know if there is usually concession/percent added to the handicap in the case that I declared no chute or spinaker, therefore white sails only. I have been informed it may be approx 4% added to handicap.

Is there a set allowance and how is the calculation done please.

Your IRC certificate will show a "no spinnaker" TCC if one has been allocated. This can only be used in a race if you originally enter it as no-spinnaker. You can't choose not to fly it and then retrospectively ask for this to be taken into account. If you are on a ISC rating then there is only one rating TCC issued for the particular configuration you submitted. In club racing you might find a local allowance made in a "club handicap" system intended to encourage the less experienced to join in the racing and the club may apply whatever rules it considers to be fair.

Yes its Sussex Combined Yacht Clubs handicap. If in the event I was to race short handed/solo it may be of benefit to simply go white sails due to handling a chute. I have been informed that a handicap is issued and if you declare beforehand that you are not taking a chute on board then an adjustment would be levied rather than be given two handicaps. I shall google it but then end up with twenty variations.

Thanks for your reply
