Next Saturday morning leaving Hamble for Gib..
Owner/Skipper asking me!!!??? about tides at Hurst...
Boat average estimated at 6 to 7 kns.
I've left my copy of Peter Bruce's book on my boat (Idiot (me not boat's name!))..
I know there's a Hw stand at Hurst late morning to around 1300 BST.. ( Belfield and Autotide show different "flats" on their graphs.)

Hw Portsmouth is 11.50 BST 4.6m

Can anyone either pm me the relative pages from Peter Bruce's book or even suggest when we should be off Hamble Point Buoy??
Want to carry the tide down channel as long as possible.
Looks as though we'll be going outside Ouessant as the tide will probably be wrong for Chenal du Four..
If you want to see where we've got to look at

www.oceanracetrack.com

and check
Where is?
Seaspine...

The transponder should be on on Saturday...

Cheers Bob E.....

Bob,
Someone may differ, but my read per Peter B's wonderful book, the raggie racers friend, a great man!;
HW Pompey-2 @ springs; The 1kt westgoing eddy off Calshot to Beaulieu R along Stanswood bay starts really going; Get across from Hamble Point and ride that?
HW-1 is Wgoing 0.5-0.8 there then and slack or wgoing in W Solent, but Shingles channel is 0.5 Egoing still, but the Hurst Spit channel is W 1kt by then.
HW Pompey Springs 2-2.7 kts W going all the way out.
HW Pompey, 05/04/08, my list= 11.33 4.5m

Depending how far up the Hamble, depart accordingly and slog the tide?
Bon Voyage /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Peter Bruce has written books about the Solent area and also the Dorset coast which are well worth a read if you sail in these parts..
The one I referred to was the Solent tides ( Gives lots of good advice)
He has also taken on the book "Heavy Weather Sailing" which was a nd still is a classic by Adlard Coles...
You should find all info on Amazon / Google/ or maybe Wikipedia
Have fun Cheers Bob E...

Bob,
Yep, the first time I read Solent Hazards, I nearly peed with fright realising all the wrecks n crap I'd been sailing over for decades.
His call on the boilers and isolated rocks at the Needles turned a 14th place match racing westward about IoW into a second( if we'd not have hit the moored Norwegian Royal yacht without a quick tack off the ISC, we'd have been first!) /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Mind the whole crew told Skip that the Nav(me!) was paying the damage deposit if we struck! Bit unfair I thought, as Skip had ordered me to find someway of clawing up at least 5 places by the line /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.
