My Simrad CP32 plotter has started mis-behaving. All waypoints and routes have been wiped out and after spending 4 hrs loading info. back in switched the unit off, switched it back on tonight and **'#.;;, its happened again. Anybody have ideas on why and how to remedy. Is there a backup battery like a computer ?

battery idea - how old is yours?

Erk dunno cause but would like to as I use same kit. Re the battery theory, how old is yours? Ours is 1999 so battery might be getting old, but so far we have not had this memory-wipe problem (ours is a CP40 but similar innards I spect)

I had three new Simrad CP32's all developed same fault and they wouldn't find gps position for hours on end. I had a full refund and bought a Raymarine colour chartplotter.

Took mine to the Simrad place in Fareham and they gave me a free software upgrade. Took about ten minutes and no problems since then. Think that the name of the bloke that helped me was Greg Barker and he was very helpful.

Re: battery idea - how old is yours?

It is the battery. Spoke to a very helpful guy(Jim) from Marine Electronic Installations of Port Solent who described the symptoms accurately before I even had chance to explain the problem !! The backup battery lasts about 3 - 4 years and then needs to be replaced. It is a hard fix connection so expert help required about £40 which includes new battery and fixing. Simrad haven't bothered to reply to my emails requesting advice and there is no mention of battery or replacement requirements in the handbook.

glad you have got to the bottom of it. My first thought waas battery, then I looked in my Garmin 215/225 manual which is a similar thing and it didn't mention one at all either!

I also use a CP32 and have had a problem with it locking me out , to the point where Ive had to power it down and start it up again 9all the buttons "freeze"...I probably wouldnt buy another Simrad which is a shame cos its built like a brick sh*t house.
