I have a trapper 300 with a Volvo inboard engine, and one of those folding saildrive 2-fin propellors. Unfortunately one of the fins has fallen off on my way back to the marina.

Obviously I urgently need to get a replacement propellor. However, I spoke to a marine engineer in my marina who said it could take up to 6 weeks for a replacement propellor to be made, if mine is not available off the shelf.

Anyway, my questions are:

1) Does anyone have an idea as to what propellor I would need? I believe the prop shaft is a 0.75" or 0.875"..

2) Seeing as I'm not a speed boat owner, does the pitch of the propellor really make that much difference? (in other words if I can get a prop of the wrong pitch off the shelf this would mean I can get back on the water asap..)

3)Any recommendations for propellor suppliers...

Thanks!!!

Jon

To size a prop you need to know the boat size, engine power and revs (easy to find out) and, most important. the gearbox ratio. On the T300 there are also space constraints of diameter.

Pitch is important, although you can trade off a bit of pitch for diameter. You will need to get size nearly right. Your cheapest option is to fit a fixed two bladed prop. You will loose a bit of sailing perfromance but you probably wont notice. However, you will need to watch the the overhang of the prop (ie distance from p bracket to prop) is not too big.

Norris at Isleworth will give you lots of advice and sell you a prop is you need it.

Alternatively, I know someone who has useable folding prop from a T300.
