Hi all
So the nature of the problem - old MD7a that was left idle for a couple of months. Went to start it and seemed like there wasn't enough power to turn the flywheel. Made it through a few turns with the decompression lever up but stopped (or struggled then stopped) once I dropped it down.
Fly wheel turns by hand and I know the engine isn't seized.
Checked the batteries (2 x 70ah 12v) and all fine (one brand new).
Checked all terminals, removed and cleaned and all connectors.
Checked cables for wear etc.
Checked the earth terminal and also confirmed good earth with multimetre.
Noticed the starter motor was gettting hot (untouch-able) and also that there was a lot of metal filings collecting around the cog.
So my questiosn are:
1. Am I right in my diagnosis that the starter motor has had it?
2. Are there other starter motors compatable with the MD7a as I'm struggling to find one.
Many thanks for any advice.
