Hi. I’m looking at an 05 250 fiesta vee it says it has a merc 5.0 lt alpha. After much googling still can’t work if it’s efi, mpi etc. I just don’t want to invest time going to see a boat if it’s going to be under powered. This is all the info
Year Built: 2005
Engine Model: 5.0L Alpha
Engine Type: Inboard

Cheers.

It would have been their base package option at 5.0 litres, once loaded with cruising gear, fuel, water and crew, would struggle to get up and plane.
The 5.7 lt/300hp would be a better bet.

While more power is usually better, I don't think it will necessarily be underpowered with a 5.0ltr. I had 25ft Bayliner (very similar boat) with an old school 5.0 ltr in 230hp form, and it was still good for 30+ knots.

Ok thanks. So here’s another question, I’ve seen another one (same boat) but the block has seized so a very good price. What would be the most powerful block I can put in it and what sort of price. New or recon.

Cheers.

The CE plate on the boat should say the maximum HP the boat is rated for.

As for the price of a new engine maybe if you are lucky you can get one for £10k fitted, plus if the engine is knackered you should probably change the outdrive also. You'd then have all the important bits brand new. I doubt if it would be cheaper than buying one where someone else has already wasted their money though.
