Help!! NMEA or SeaTalk

Help needed please,

Just bought a raystar 125 GPS and it can be connected to NMEA or Seatalk.
I have a raytheon 630 chartplotter which has both connections,
can anyone tell me which is the better and why, my last gps was a raystar 112 which is dead.

Seatalk, cos its so easy, plug and go

Sea talk. Leaves your NMEA on the plotter free for other use such as DSC hook up (ie NMEA out from plotter to DSC VHF, etc)

Thanks for that but I am a bit confused as my DSC is connected to NMEA via my power lead and not my gps,
I am not sure about this, but is it the case that the gps talks to the display using NMEA?

Your DSC VHF should be getting a Lat/Long position from a GPS via NMEA. Not sure how yours is set up /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Talk to Kevin at www.yachtbits.co.uk he has an opinion...there are issues using SeaTalk whn your system grows...but he can explain directly.
