I've got the Sunday morning blues and have been working out how my mobo 'investment' can be better placed. So far a semi mortgaged BTL seems the best bet. It'd also leave me with a few £k's to buy a trailer mobo to keep in the barn - which won't leave me crying if it's not used.

This is a common affliction at this time of years when there is a pile of bills for berthing, maintenance, insurance, repairs etc etc and the weather has been so shoit that you barely remember what the boat looks like. Boats never make financial sense and imo it's pointless trying to make one. In absolute terms buying a property with the capital in the boat is always going to be better financially, in the long run anyway.

I sometimes have the same thoughts, but being rational goes out the window with the boat and life is too short, so it gets kept.

It's a sad fact of life that at the time you you can afford the cost of running a decent sized boat, you probably don't have the time available to use it. When god and the government grant you the time to enjoy it you can't afford it. So all I can offer is life is shorter than you believe, enjoy as much of it as you can, and finally only fools die rich. Treasure your boat because it is a magnificent investment in living, loving and laughing. Forget about squeezing as much money out of your life as possible because looking at your bank balance is very rarely a source of joy.

Weather so carp, thinking of selling boat ; spending £8k a year saving on running costs on going to as many F1 and Moto GP races as possible.

Nah. No money in property ATM unless you have a multi million £ for sale in London to an Oligarc. Stick with the boating.
Disagree with that. BTL in South East is a sound investment if you buy the right kind of property in the right area. We have no prob filling our BTL properties in S Bucks and make a good return too. The word 'investment' should never be used in the same context the word 'boat'. A boat is an outrageous expense for which there is no possible financial justification:)

EXCELLENT ..... I think this should be permanently at the top of the forum. It made me feel more cheerful. Your own words??

Thank you for your words. The day took a turn for the better and I ended spending a pleasant afternoon with my bum poking out of the engine bay - you could eat your dinner in there now. Just a bit of cleaning in the galley and a freshen up in the fridge and I'm ready for the wind to drop. Pleasantly warm it was down there - bit of music filling the saloon with the occasional crackle of the VHF, all in symphony with the sound of elbow grease in play.

Hi gravygraham
We only stay at a location max two seasons, then move , with new areas to explore this keeps us wanting to keep going out to different locations, regardless if weather not always perfect average 150 to 200 hrs per year and some ware around 1000 nm, perhaps changing your location would get you out and about more, ( then again after two years we normally get asked to move on ) :) .hopping to stay at current location longer
