Help, my C80 Plotter looses it\'s Scanner link when voltage drops

Hi, can anybody help with a Raymarine C80 plotter problem?

I have a C80 plotter and a 2kw Raymarine Raydome installed on my sailing yacht, both are under 12 months old. When I restart my engine with the C80 already on I get the message in the top left corner of the screen 'no scanner' instead of the usual '?nm sync'.

Now I know the reason is that there is a voltage drop when I start the engine. This can't be avoided. There's nothing wrong with the equipment (although it would be nice if it didn't do it), but I can live with it.

My question is whether it is possible to make the C80 recognise that there is a scanner connected without having to reboot the C80. When I reboot, the scanner is found again and I can use the radar. It's just annoying that I have to switch it off to make it recover.

Does anyone know of any way that the C80 can be told that a scanner is present without switching it off and on again?

Thank you in anticipation of your replies.
Ian.

Can't help with getting the scanner to be re-found - but I'd be interested to know.

Curious about the voltage drop though - I'd have thought if you had a "normal" setup - engine start battery and house battery - then teh voltage drop on engine start shouldn't effect instrumentation etc on the hiouse battery - or maybe you just have the one battery - or everything is connected together ?

I had strange problems with Raymarine equipment when I started or stopped the engine even though they operated from a different battery from the engine start battery. Rather surprisingly this was cured by ensuring that all the earth connections were clean including those on the batteries, engine, Raymarine equipment and anodes.

Its worth a try but I cannot guarrantee that it will cure your problem.

I had the same problem with my plotter and GPS. Both crashed on engine restart (Ie often in tricky situautions). Only cure was to wire both direct to battery, with appropriate fuses and in line switch. Simple enough, and works fine now.
