might be worth considering a rugged tablet PC. Yes, not as portable as a PDA but much more useful on the boat for charting and great for internet browsing in the house or at hotspots.

Take a look at Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox 720 - has got everything you might need, I have bought many gadgets in my time but this is the best by far. Wireless, bluetooth, CF card slot, SD card slot, VHA screen etc etc
Works a treat with Skype. Best forget wired connection to GPS - just buy a bluetooth GPS on eBay for about £60

If your really quick you can still order a DELL their ofering 20% off untill the end of the month. That is if you want a Dell!

We seem to be going down the same road!Ive bought a small sailboat, and will be leaving end April for the Baltic where ill be untill october???

I have a small x40 IBM laptop but felt that with a small dry! boat i needed somthing easier to protect, more portable, and less theift prone.

The Dell has a 680? proccessor the fastest there is,built in mic and speaker to skype with wi-fi bluetooth cf and sd card slot. It also has changeable batteries, and costs half the price of the HP etc (almost!)

Im now looking at various softwear to make it easyer to use As for navigation i decided just to have a dedicated GPS and use my PDA for comms, uploading photos, and naturally checking emails when in a hot spot. Other wise my PDA will live in a waterproof bag untill i go ashore with it in my pocket!

Later this week i will post the softwear i find, PDA compatable, for example ill install firefox and thunderbird,to see how their portable applications run, also
http://photobucket.com/ to upload photos, i havent tried it yet as my wi-fi Dell should at last arrive today!! Held up with unending holidays.

What softwear have you been useing and do you have any tips advice for useing a PDA.
