help me source 3.5X40 countersunk ss etched black woodscrews plz!

well, that was easy, title says it all really

need 3.5mm dia woodscrews with the typical countersunk head, either torx, Philips or even square that are 30 to 40mm long.
Don't mind if head is slightly bulging, would probably prefer flat if I had to choose.

Have to be ss and have to be black.

Now, found some around but the sizing was odd and cannot figure out if they fit or not. Feel from the pics that they are metal and not wood screws (not that I care that much on the thread depth and density as screws are not going to have a very hard and stressful life)

Vas, have you tried Sea Screw Ltd? Their web site looks good for no. 6 x 1.5 inch which I think is the right size, but they are not black finish. Let me know if you need any deeper digging.

I'm not dying for an explanation, but quite curious!

wonder if the 8G X 1/2 on the link I posted actually means 4mmX 12 (which is NOT quite right in proportions and too thick and too short for what I'm after)

any other ideas for 6 X 1.5 black?

You want a number 6 screw . The number 6 will give you a diameter of 3.5mm.
30-40 mm long, 1 1/4" is just under 32mm, 1 1/2" is 38 mm, so you could search for 6g x1 1/2" this will give you 3.5mm by 38mm.

OK, so g is also there as a denomination for the dia bit, np.

so 6G X 1 1/4 or

6G X 1 1/2 are fine for me.

Problem is in a few sites and some ebay shops I've looked at, they only state black ss screws starting (or only!) 8G :(

I wonder if I can find the exact external dia of the head of the 6G and 8G respectively and compare to the ones I have down here (although it should really be matching eachother!)

Pretty sure that 8G head will look stupidly large on the tapers I have in both the alloy porthole rims and the grp engine room vents.

Vas there are very few stockists of black machine screws and even fewer of wood screws. Here's one though that does 6x 1.25inch at 10 bucks for 100. USA.

I guess the poor availability is due to small demand - a high quality black paint is preferred by many. You could get a batch custom black oxidised but that will be 100-200 euros I guess. Seriously I would use paint applied by small brush onto carefully degreased screwheads, for you portholes job

There is a uk eBay seller called Carbolts with loads of ss A2 machine screws in black etching (and red!). You could buy these and screw them into threaded inserts. Hard work though with your quantity, compared with black paint IMHO. More generally, threaded inserts are good things for removeable panels on boats

I may try them as a hundred will just about do all my portholes (9 screws each, 10 portholes) and will have a few spare :p

Will also test fit 8G screws on them and see if I can get away with them as 8G availability is much better and prices are cheaper.
