Hello chaps,

Maybe slightly unorthodox asking this question in this forum but I couldn't figure where else to place it. Being based in Turkey and trying to organise something in the UK is not easy.

I'm planning a weekend stag do in July for my cousin and am thinking a water-based theme w/e could be good fun. Of course I'd prefer a good weekend sail but I have to think of others who aren't so comfortable on water. I got as far as:

- Norfolk Broads
- Narrow boat/barge
- Hobie/dinghy sailing

I get the feeling Norfolk Broads wouldn't offer anything other than mooring up next to a pub, which is no bad thing but having a main activity to do on the Saturday is always a good idea, even if it means getting off the boat to play a round of golf or something (none of us play golf, btw). The hobie cat sailing could be fun but if most have never been sailing the idea of tacking after sailing in a straight line for 5 miles might be a bit overwhelming.

Anyone have any decent recommendations on location and activities? Or indeed any other water-based activities I've not thought of? I'm trying my best to avoid paintballing, quadbiking, strippers and handcuffs, though having something to do in the evening (pub and pool) is essential. Location has to be easy access from Stanstead Airport since some are flying in from Ireland. East or South Coast is ideal. Wales would be good fun but a little harder for people to get to.

Your help would be very much appreciated!

Is a water-based beer up a good idea? Stay on land but have watersports - surfing, kite-surfing training etc. There was a story a few years back of a drowned drunk on a stag weekend. Not a happy tale.

Despite it being a stag-do the guys are all 30-something fathers, so notions of it being a boozy beer-drinking fest won't ring true in this instance. I take your point though. Kite surfing could be a winner!

You have caught Blair disease my friend........

Ok you can't legislate but condemning it is the equivalent.

Hi Demonboy,
What about a weekend on a Luxury Motor Cruiser in the Solent, and combine this with a superfast rib!! We call this our JavaCombo, and is ideal for Stag or Corporate events. Have a blast out to The Needles, or take a more sedate pace in the Solents harbours and rivers. It provides the best of both worlds - some of the party can take a 50mph bare knuckle ride while the others enjoy the Luxury Motorcruiser. All sleeping accommodation, food and drinks etc are provided on the Motorcruiser. Saturday nights in Cowes or the Folly are lively!

No No No. You've missed the point. If people are sensible then there is no need for legislation. Who wants legislation?

My son went on a kite-surfing weekend somewhere in the Solent/Isle of Wight. First day was learning to fly the kites, second day was making a fool of yourself - sounds like a great lads being loony weekend. Fresh air to clear the brain as well /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you want water based, and if most there haven't been sailing much, dinghy sailing instruction with instructor could be superb experience. Somewhere like Salcombe where lots of nice interesting stuff, and good pubs and other stuff nearby.

A lot depends on who is coming and what time of year, and prefered part of UK and budget

surely better if you all fly into Ireland and hold the event there?

Hire a sunsail boat and go to the folly inn on the medina river Isle of wight.
For nightclubs either ocean village (southampton) or Gun wharf Quays (portsmouth).

How about chartering the two Americas cup boats for a day out. I think its Sunsail and I think they will bring champagne and buffet lunch out to you. 2 teams, 2 boats and race away!
