I'm in Seth Effrika on business at the moment and staying in Melrose Arch, near our Jo'Burg office.
It's a kind of gated community with offices, hotels, shopping malls and housing, surrounded by walls and with private security - clean, safe and pleasant. But I could be anywhere in the world, and there's a weird Stepford-Wives like disconnect between my surroundings and reality. There's no sense of the real Jo'Burg (no bad thing, you may say) or even South Africa, except for the World Cup stuff everywhere.
This isn't really a moan or a rant, just an observation. It's very, very surreal....
(Sorry - should have posted this in the Lounge. Jo'burg is miles from the sea and doesn't even have a river running through it (largest city in the world without a river, apparently)
