Oops red face all round. Recently lost my prop fortunately in the River but now need a replacement.

Does anyone have or know of a 24 inches x 24 inches 3 blade left hand rotation standard prop with a 1:12 taper to suit a 30mm shaft that I can steal for not very much? I am in Spain but can arrange collection in the UK. Obviously I will buy a new one if I have to but my yachting experience tells me there are loads out there, in boatyards, secondhand boat shops and just lying around, after all if you make a 'c..k up' when ordering it isn't much good for anything else. except perhaps me!!! So have a good look around and let me know. But please no old lumps of corrossion or damage.
Oh dear where is Squeaker Smith when you need him. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Are you sure of your dimensions?

24" x 24"??? My prop is 19" diameter and I thought it was the biggest diameter you can find for a 30 mm shaft. For a 30" boat I'd expect something nearer 14"....

Absolutely - but thanks again and the boat is a 20 m schooner weighs in at 30 tons. Needs all the help she can get.

Dunno, Steve!!! How are you anyway? Will have a look in UK when I'm there for you! Very careless of you losing your prop! What happened, nut corrode away? Happened to me once!

Re: Are you sure of your dimensions?

I seem to remember an article in PBO, around April 64, about how to cast your own propellor in ferro cement , using the differential of a Ford Anglia as the bearing. Have you tried researching on those lines?

Hi Scotty, good to hear from you. I have seen your posts on the forum over the last few weeks. We are both well and living up the Guadiana. If you ever come this way do drop in for a drink. We have sold SK, when I fix the prop, and she will go next April, after that there is a 30 ton mooring you could use if you graced us with a visit. FREE!!!!!
How did the prop come off? well too embarrassed to say really. It looks as though I omitted to refit the split pin after taking the prop off earlier in the year..but...when I checked it yesterday I noticed the key was corroded and had sheared in two along its length. So maybe the force of a slightly over revved engagement of astern caused the key to shear, the nut to undo shearing the split pin and loosing the lot. This would be a better slant than to say I made a mistake!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Keep smiling.

Jeanne, re casting a new one - you know me better than that. I have trouble casting sly looks at the local senoritas! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
