I have been sent a photo of 4 Trojan 6V batterys connected to power a machine ... but I cannot decide if they are series connected to make 24V or parallel ?

Please can someone look and help ?

I went back to the photos after posting and as others noted - its 24v setup.

I'm now questioning whether I want to drive the near 5hrs to view the machine .... guy advertised as having new batterys - but when we spoke to him today - he says batterys need replacement. He offered a 200 euro discount !!

They are Trojan T105 6v .... 4 of them .... at about 240 euros EACH !

The battery rack is designed for them - so question is whether another brand could fit in there ... whether possible to substitute two 12v deep cycles in their place ? With same AH rating.

It's risky,.. but make him an offer what you are prepared to pay tak it or leave it.
Risk is he my agree and when you get there he changes his mind.

Our boat originally in 1978 had 4 x 6V batteries in series to give 24V for the house load, they have been replaced with 2 x 12V 310AH to give 24V, also has 2 smaller 12V batteries in series to give 24V for the engines. Now the battery compartment is half empty with only the 2 12V semi traction batteries and the 2 start batteries

I replaced those batteries with new ones, these two were off gassing and tripping the gas detector.

Edit: Page from the manual, there were 8 6V batteries so, series + parallel connection to give 24V

Hi Nigel that is a bit of a dilemma for you re driving 5 hours to view the cherry picker. I hope you can get a satisfactory outcome.
Regarding batteries I have just taken delivery of 2x 50AH lithium LiFePo4 batteries for my mobility scooter. 24 v x2 in series. I am happy with outcome and found the lithium cheaper that slightly less capacity LA. (40AH)
The batteries have built in charge controller and in my case 50 amp load current limited. About half the weight. of LA.
My recharging is quite low current 2 amps or less. No need for rapid recharge.
What may be a concern is I think the charge controller will cut supply when batteries get low. Possibly no warning could leave you hanging up there. Unless there is a get down function no power. I presume this is a hydraulic controlled electric pump arrangement.
Look for Lifetime batteries from China. I was amazed at the (free) delivery time. (Perhaps I should thank Donald Trump)
Anyway time will tell if they are good batteries but so far so good. Might suit Cherry picker. ol'will

It’s very difficult to make out from the photo….but as a general rule….you usually have 6v batteries in a series to get the voltage higher

Machine is a Meiller 123 .. 15,5m height unit.

What may be a concern is I think the charge controller will cut supply when batteries get low. Possibly no warning could leave you hanging up there. Unless there is a get down function no power. I presume this is a hydraulic controlled electric pump arrangement.

All machines asimilar are fitted with manual pump as well ... so person on ground can actually raise / lower in event of electric failure. Of course lowering is quicker than raising !! And hard work ...

I'm reluctant to drive 5hrs if guy is not willing to keep to the advertisement claim of new batterys.

I've checked online here and regardless of Trojan or not - the 225Ahr specification of 24V and Deep Cycle gives similar costs whatever batterys I go for ... FLA .. AGM .... LiFePo4 ..... in bank of 6V or 12V units ~ 1000 euros
