Penta 120 Cruising outboard - workshop manual wanted! Or any advice on replacing the impeller. Anyone know where I can get spares for this old beast? pmorris01 @blueyonder.co.uk
They were re-badged volvo penta I believe, just need to find the correct VP model, try a google search. I had a 65HP and found a Sweedish site that had part no's. Sorry gave the info away when I sold the engine.
The impellor is reasonably easy to change by dropping the leg and accessing it by unbolting the pump body that surrounds the drive shaft. Check the drive shaft isn't badly corroded and that the upper & lower seals haven't cut rings into the shaft. Come to think of it, you will need a pump kit, not just the impellor, which comprises inner sleeve, impellor, two "O" seals and two gaskets. Slight smear of Vaseline on impellor blades before installing.
Had an email from New Zealand with this advice. Can ayone confirm its corerect before I strip it all down!
".......DO NOT TRY AND REMOVE THE LOWER UNIT,until you have removed the gearbox. As follows,in this order.
Remove the propeller, then the two cap screws, lever off the circular casting, which will allow the prop shaft to come out with the reverse gear.
Now remove the four cap screws and pull off the gearbox. On the end of the gearshift rod you will find the shifter quadrant, slide it off sideways, now you can remove the casting containing the water pump.."
