Help - anyone near Studland able to help three French ladies?

Completely genuine - there's a 25 foot yacht moored just ahead of us, flat battery and a small diesel. I've been trying to help them today but the only portable battery we have is too small, about 40 amps and too flat. I can't go alongside to jumpstart because our domestic system has a 100amp fuse protection in the circuit that would blow if we tried to use it and the engine start battery is buried in the bowels of the Kipper.

These three delightful French ladies need some help, CG says call Seastart but obviously they're not members. Is anyone local able to help?
 
Sea start will normally help - I think they charge £50 plus a years membership .......
or maybe give them a tow??
 
OK, but anyone able to help without them doing that? I've had lots of help when we were stuck in Holland.
 
If you have a suitable cable you could use it to charge their battery (perhaps by putting on your boat) rather than jump to their starter motor. That would not exceeded your 100 amp protection.
 
Try a shout on the Mobo forum LK, maybe some kind gent will come out of Poole in a big Mobo and rescue the damsels.
 
No hand start facility and Seastart is only available to UK citizens - I just checked. Looking for a local Good Samaritan.

Can't you bridge the fuse temporarily?

Although it wouldn't surprise me if a 1GM10 or similar could be started even through a 100amp fuse. I think they'll take a lot more than the rated current for a few seconds.

How would putting their battery on your boat and using jump leads to parallel their battery to yours and running your engine to charge it cause your domestic fuse to blow - seems illogical.
 
A couple of times I've dealt with similar situations, with no cables available, by taking a battery off the casualty, installing it temporarily in my boat in place of one of my batteries, etc...

On one occasion when the casualty's battery terminals were very different from mine, I just bound the battery leads to the terminals with tape.

If your stuck call cobs quay marina , there is a guy there Clive who lives aboard a big motor boat on F pontoon that is the local agent for sea start and a marine engineer, he will come out to stud land,

Couple of years ago I was clearing unexploded ordnance off the sea bed in shat El Arab in Iraq , we came across an Iraqi fishing dhow with five blokes on they were in our way and potentially a security risk , they kept waving to us, turns out they been sat there for three weeks and nearly out of water - flat batteries and couldn't start their engine - stranger things happen at sea

I wouldn't think three french birds in stud land would have to wait long at all

How about going ashore and seeing if you can borrow a car battery? (An older, non-computer controlled type, of course).

Or towing them to where they can sail the boat to civilisation?

Any bit of cable from your boat to theirs will eventually get enough charge in to enable a start. If you are worried about a fuse blowing, connect to the other side. Surely you carry a spare fuse anyway and I am sure they would give you a kiss in exchange for a blown fuse.
