I have recently acquired a wooden fishing boat (carvel construction), however I am having huge problems trying to get an insurance quote because I do not know how old it is or what model it is, I have been led to believe that it was buillt by Curtis & Pape of Looe, what should I do? Can anyone recommend and insurance company to try ?

I have just bought my first wooden boat and had no problems insuring with Stephen Whiteman - 02380 283361. (This was dependent on a satisfactory survey result.)

I had a claim on a policy written by Steven Whitman. He was as much use as a chocolate fireguard in arguing our case with Navigators (aka Zurich). Now with Pantaenius, the premiums maybe a bit more, but they have a first class reputation for paying out.

You get what you pay for/

I have a very good broker for my Curtis Pape Carvel hulled MFV.
Let me know if you would like more info. Owned her for 8 years and had no problems.

Bishop Skinner insured my 25+ year old Ply Eventide without inspection - simply an undertaking I would take 'all reasonable steps' to ensure she is seaworthy. Sounds like a good loophole if they dont want to pay up though in a total loss situation, so I plan on obtaining a written "Boatyard inspection'' from my Boatbuilder before next season at a fraction of the cost of a full survey, which will give me an independent written record of her general condition.

I can't get any insurance until I have it inspected, and it won't be getting inspected until it's repairs have been finished, so currently it has no insurance. I have not tried Bishop Skinner though, may give them a shot.
