Helmsdale Harbour Campaign

I know most peeps don't venture this far north but this is a wonderful little harbour in danger of being lost.

<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.helmsdale-harbour.org.uk>Helmsdale</A> is of strategic importance to cruising yacthsmen as it gives a good place of shelter / port of call on the somewhat difficult NE Coast between Moray Firth and Wick

I think they are starting repair of the east pier? St Andrews harbour is in similar parlous condition and nothing has been done. They too are after EU funding.

one does wonder if there might be more, perhaps many more, once thriving fishing communities with small harbours which are in dire need of repair. As I recall, one advantage claimed for the Scottish Executive would be the ability to wheedle money out of the EU for community projects ..... perhaps an SMP (Scottish Member of Parliament) or two might forego their palatial office accomodation in Holyrood for a half decent harbour wall in Sutherland ....
