Well, some of you may need no introduction, but for those of you that do; I'm the other half of the exiled Steve....... I came on to ask a question but curiosity got the better of me and I did a search on "Steve101" and guess what????

He was only on here for a little over two months and six months after he was banished "Saddam like" from Basrah (Scuttlebutts) his name still crops up in conversation! :-) Guess he WAS fondly missed after all!

P.S.

Anyone have any info on the new Bavaria 49 (3 Cabin) as featured in Yachting Monthly, problem is Bavaria Website seems to have closed! Thank you.

Course he is! How's the sailing going?

None being done at the moment, we're just recovering from our busy period and starting to get back into it. Steve says "Hi mate" but he won't elaborate for fear of getting me banned for broadcasting his voice Jerry Adams like during the IRA thing Hehehe. Been reading lots of glossy brochures though!

Thanks for my first reply.

Hi Angela

How did you (I meant he) get on with his RYA course, and what's the list of extras for the Bav?

Welcome back and best wishes
Tom

So I suppose your sort of a double agent. Hmm, well that seems OK to me. What about Kimotalah, now thats the question. Cant see why he should ban you though. Well not till you do something really nasty anyway.........../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Hello indeed Angela!! Good to hear from you (& Steve by proxy). I have to say the forum was pretty flat for some time since Steve's gagging order, in fact it's fair to say it's never been the same since. Give the old so & so my best wishes. We got our Bavaria 36 some 4 weeks ago, and so far very pleased indeed.

The Bavaria website IS up and running on: www.bavaria-yachtbau.com, or you can try their importers, Opal Marine at : www.opalmarine.co.uk. Alternatively call their Opal's Sales Director, Phil Hoskins on 023 9258 3242. He can supply you with all details.

Hope you both remain well,

Mike N

Re: Hurrah! for mrs 101

hi!

of course is v sorely missed. Everyone else is now all sandpapering, brush cleaning and worrying about 2ba nuts and bolts. Whereas in the days of mr 101 we discussed much much more important things.

PS: I think the new galley should be from Boffi, and that the master cabin bulkhead can easily support a Fujitsui 60" TV plasma screen.

Thanks Mike. I'm zippin off check out their site right now. Steve says "Hi!" and although he refuses to admit it; hated being booted out. I got to see him more though!!!

For fear of receiving the wrath of Kim, Steve just asked if you had the twin aft 36, we looked at that ourselves.

Re: Hurrah! for mrs 101

Don't start him, he's just bolted nine 42" plasmas together in the shop. It's all I can do to stop him staying there all night to watch the footie!

Big Bottom

If you're looking at a Bav, make sure you get the geep lead keel extra, it makes a big difference to the sailing performance. Nicho's boat looks wonderful, its a wonder Marie lets him take it out!

Hi again Ange - no, we got the "owners" version, with the single aft cabin, and like I said, we are very happy with it .The only problem has been a Raymarine GPS receiver that failed second time out, but which was fixed inside two hours - pretty good service I think. We chose this version because it gives a much bigger forward cabin, (with no heads intruding into the space), and a huge starboard cockpit locker. We sometimes take friends with us, but never more than two at a time for a 'stop over'.

Cheers

Re: Berk!

You let her hold the helm! jeez!

1. Selectively tuirn off things at the fuse box while she is on the helm and she'll then have the pox, and abandon to you.

2. Foul the boat. Eg set a line from outside cleat under the keel and back to the pontoon and she''ll never get away.

3. make very very powerful drinks.

4. or, make no drinks at all.

5. Get a sick bag and retch into it. Explain that it is much easier and calmer for helmsperson.

6. Get up really early, and set off whilst they are all snoozing "to catch the tide".

7. Enjoy it. Get fabulously sloshed, sunbathe, sit at the bow. DFo you need to drive all the time? If you were Royalty, you'd have a chauffeur. You have a chaffeur. Worry about ice, and the banishment of poxy slimline tonic.

So has the idea of the 2nd-hand 30-something foot Bav bitten the dust?
Did "He Who Shall Not Be Named" finish his Day Skipper by correspondence course in the end?

Bavvy 49

49 feet eh? My, what a big one!

Reading the PBO report, it seems like it's 49 feet without any stowage, just loads of empty space. Bizarre. Mind you. I guess you could get a cabinet maker to fit out one or more of the spare bedrooms as walk-in wardrobes, pantries, workshops, etc.

Did any one else think the speeds quoted seem slow for a big boat? I've sailed a Swan 411 that was as fast as that, and a Swan 57 that was considerably faster, despite having shagged sails.
