Hi everyone

Ive just joined up after buying a Robert Ives 21ft 421 sloop with bilge keel built in 1968.

Im new at this (sailing) and Im about to start a day skipper course at local night school.

Does anyone know about the history of Robert Ives? His reputation and general info. would be great.

Also handling characteristics of this particular model.

Many thanks and I look forward to chatting over the forums!

Dick

All I can remember about them is that they were built at the back of Poole Quay by Searider Yachts who built the Searider 25 and later the Sunrider 25, I remember visiting the yard and stepping on board one as they were in the process of building her. Quite a small company that obviously went many years ago. I have a feeling Robert Ives were the moulders of a large number of well known designs. Might be mistaken, but it rings a bell....

I am sure other info will be forthcoming

Robert Ives worked from New Milton where I am pretty sure most of the boats were built. And, yes he did mould a lot of other well known boats.

A mate had one for about 15 years and it is still in our club along with at least one other. An excellent first boat, rather pedestrian but welll balanced and easy to sail. Very heavily built in the style of the day and quite well finished. My mates had an Albin which was great while it was running but died of old age and internal corrosion. It now has an 8hp outboard and loads of storage space. Another one in the club has a Yanmar 1GM.

You should get good service out of it.

Enjoy (and welcome to the forum)
