hi all just thought I would share some pics of our trip out yesterday along Liverpools historic and picturesque waterfront.Look how calm the water is for a change but just lacking a bit of sunshine. Its just delightful to be out and we cruised around for about 2 hours.

Talking about Liverpool, a good few years ago I was taking a boat from Alderney to Manchester and as I was single handed I had hired a delivery skipper to help me who was a retired Mersey Pilot. As you probably know that off Liverpool cargo ships wait for high water so they can go up river or the Ship Canal. He said that during the war ammunition ships would arrive from the USA and drop anchor waiting for the tide. Unfortunatly the Luftwaffe also knew the time of our tides and would time their bombing raids to catch the ammunition ships at anchor. He reckoned that there were so many of these boats sunk off Liverpool that if they went up it would take the Sea Front at Liverpool with it. Perhaps after 60+ years the risk has been corroded away.

I see the river view of the 3 Graces are already badly compromised by new buildings. It will get worse if the new plans come to fruition.

Glad you enjoyed your trip tho. I have fond memories of crossing on the ferries with NW'ly gales over the ebb & having to jump for the storm gankplanks cos the normal ones were unuseable. Heaven help the little old ladies coming back from a trip to TJ's or Blackler's.
