Hi, just joined and thought a "hello" would be nice. Been reading this forum for a while and taking onboard tips etc. Finally decided to buy my first cabin type boat having had numerous RIBs in the past and opted for a 2008 Merry Fisher 805. Just taken delivery and had my first weekend away in her. Love the fact when it rains I now stay dry :o
Am planing a trip to Guernsey and the Scillies from Plymouth, any tips would be much appreciated. Just waiting for a decent weather window now :nonchalance:
 
welcome on board. Fine choice of boat. What engine does she have ? What sort of comms and safety kit is on board ?

If said boat has not been used in lumpy weather, it would be worth checking the tank for crud and muck, as well as carrying a couple of spare fuel filters.

Cruising in Autumn ? You have to be lucky to get more than 12 hours before the weather changes. Lots of bolt holes btw Plymuff and Scillies.

Both CIs and Scilly is doable in Autumn/winter but you might have either shorter or longer stay than planned due to weather conditions. And I suspect you'll be quite lonely in Scilly, can't imagine there will be many visiting boats there from now until Easter.

When I bought my ore is boat a CI32 we went to Guernsey in December, arrived late one night to be greeted by the HM who then told us that a gale had jus been forecast which meant we left early the next day! With our present boat we did the same trip, again in December, and had 5 great days there. The moral of the story is double check all the weather forecasts and then check again when there several times at least, each day.

If I were you, I'd be looking for more local trips, Fowey, Falmouth, Salcombe, Dartmouth, Yealm all of which are lovely places.

I will certainly take on board your advice re the weather window. Already been caught out getting to Falmouth, my dog got seasick on the way back - poor lad and all my own fault! Not sure hes looking forward to anymore trips in the boat.

Sarabande - Im sorry for failing to answer your questions above earlier. Then engine is a Nanni T4 200 with a full main dealer service history since new. I do have a spare set of filters just in case - good call. I got caught out in some rough water on the way back from my Falmouth trip the engine ran fine but I'm ready for any future issues.

The comms fitted is a DSC Raymarine VHF but can't remember off hand what the model number is. Safety wise I have an ICOM waterproof hand held VHF, offshore flare kit, Spinlock LJs, PLB and a set of immersion suits just in case (curtesy of job) but am looking for a decent liferaft to fit. HTH.
