sea flat, wind 5kn NE and we are going south west so - engine. And despite original forecasts looking like 15kn beam reach it looks like engine all the way to Falmouth. The only positive is that I have an internet connection (slow) and so. can waste the early morning at sea as I do on land. Gadgets in use . new Nexus10 tablet, hauwei mifi modem and give gaff sim.



And its sunny:-)
 
Make the most of the nice weather Bosun, rain later, possibly thunder and hail they say! And if you get a move on, pop into St Ives, where the Queen will be visiting later on!

first dolphin pod of the year. will post photos on return. Meantime now off Bude but going is so slow 5.3kn that we look to be hitting lands end in the dark. So decision to take - do I anchor somewhere or take my chances on the pots in the inshore passage.
 
You know your capabilities and your vessel. Weather seems to be settled, and might be a bit of moon tonight. However, do you have enough fuel for motoring? Are you in any hurry? Padstow might be a good overnight stop, (depends on tides and the lock times I suppose), or perhaps anchor off St Ives? Not sure I'd want to take the insure passage after the loss of the lady sailor some months ago. Mind you, I've not ventured out that way in my own little boat:cool:

just off St Ives. Rain and wind came through so we had a few hours making 8 in over The ground. Even had 2 hours wiTH THe Spinny up. However its dropped a bit now - we're doing 6.3kn on 226 deg about 2miles due north of St ives
 
I used to visit R.A.F. Hartland Point to do 3rd line maintenance on the radars and TACAN beacon.

Used to stay in the White Hart; local plod would knock on the door about 11:30pm for a swift pint and an hour later in would pop the 2 Customs chappies for the same!
 
No. We had an easy ride round lands end using the inshore passage but decided to stop off on one of the buoys outside Penzance harbour. Evert time I do that I vow never to repeat it - the reflected swell off the harbour wall makes it like sleeping in a washing machine so we were no less tired in the morning that at lights out.

Next day was a leisurely trip round the lizard in very light winds so under engine. stopped three times to try and catch some pollack but failed despite sexy home made (from penguin biscuit wrapper) lures. Now on my mooring in Falmouth pondering the various equipment failures en route
 
Thanks for the update. I did wonder what your intentions might have been, Penzance before it got too late, or motoring/sailing on towards Falmouth. I can understand the swell off the harbour, just like we had in Braye, where we were on the first mooring, closest to the end of the breakwater. Our 22 footer was just as you describe, but after the crossing from Plymouth, we just accepted it.

Those fish are a nuisance, never in the right place when you want them, LOL!
 
we should really have gone into newlyn, but I have never liked the place for reasons I can't put my finger on. Anyway, that's this years delivery done. Always difficult getting out of the bristol channel with a deep fin and nowhere to call in between Cardiff and Padstow.
