Hi all,

I have recently moved to Sweden near Stockholm where the archipelago is beautiful.

I want to buy a boat but don't really know anything about them.

I have about £15k to spend, and want something that is reliable, fun but safe, can sleep over on it for my wife, baby son and myself and also do a bit of fishing from it.

Would appreciate all advice.

Thanks,

Ian.

Hi and welcome to the forum Ian. I'm sure there'll be quite a few on here who'll come forward with some advice for your first purchase.

Ian, a warm welcome to the forum. Have a look at something like a Flipper. They are Scandinavian, and built for the local environment. Good boats too.

Thanks for the advice. Went to a boat shop yesterday, was advised to buy Scandinavian by the guy there too. He also said get at least 6m boat with 150 4 stroke as that is what most people want when I come to sell.

I was going to push the boat out (excuse the pun) and buy new for the peace of mind 5 year warranty but he also advised me to buy used as its my first boat. Talked himself out of a sale there.

Anyway they do have a used boat that I am interested in a Flipper 630 made in 2008 but didn't see water until 2012 and it comes with a 1 year warranty. Is it worth buying from a dealer or better to buy private?

Thanks Spi D, already been looking at that site, finding a berth could be hard work, it seems not many spaces are available nearby. We have space at home to put the boat in the winter.

Plenty of places to berth if you get a bit away from the city but driving in the archipelago is time consuming, depending on where in the area you live.

Indoors winter storage is very attractive. Suggests your home is not in the city centre so waterways nearby might offer fair berthing after all.

Edit: Blocket even has ads on berths etc.
