Hellllp !!! Thames Refuelling Points

I'm planning a trip up the Thames from Medway Bridge to Henley...but I'm struggling to find PETROL refuelling points on the way...can anyone help???:)
 
Petrol at Shepperton, Penton Hook, Windsor and Bray marinas. Unsure below Shepperton. If you can get hold of it before your trip "The River Thames Book" by Chris Cove-Smith is indispensable for info re fuel, moorings, locks, best channel to take etc etc.
 
Your first one will be at Shepperton Marina, unless you stop overnight at St Kats or Limehouse etc.. and walk to a petrol station with cans.
 
This question seems to surface from time to time but we never seem to be able to offer a definitive list of on-river and close-to-river locations for petrol.

Maybe this is a job for the power of the Thames Forum !!!

Between us we must be aware of every supplier from Lechlade to the Thames Barrier so PM me details of both Diesel and Petrol Selling locations and I will produce a spreadsheet !!

In fact, I'll do better than that and put it on a webpage which I can update as new info comes in.

Certainly petrol available at Windsor and Bray marinas which is the london bus syndrome as they are practically next to each other. Not sure if there is anything between Shepperton and Windsor. The next petrol stop upstream of Bray is at Henley itself - On the Henley bank just upstream of the bridge in amongst the passenger boats. You can miss it if its busy, as the pontoon isn't obvious.

ISTR Hobbs' petrol being the most eyewateringly expensive substance on the river, breaching the bounds of pure hypermathematics. In my petrol days I established that there was a filling station by the railway station, a few minutes walk lugging two petrol cans on a collapsing trolley.
 
So basically, between Medway bridge & Shepperton there's nothing except nomal petrol stations & lugging a jerry can around. Then from Shepperton onwards I should be able to keep it topped up? WONDERFUL....

Found the following info on the river thames website http://www.the-river-thames.co.uk/facilities.htm#five lists riverside fuel availability but it may be out of date - certainly it doesnt list Chertsey Meads where I know diesel is available.

Great I know, try running twin engined petrol boat on the tidal Thames. Putney has very good
spot to buy street fuel, just after the boat race start there are several rowing clubs and a
very wide slip, after the slip there is a concrete wall with railings. Mooring there will give you approx 150 mtrs to walk for fuel. Only available at higher tide levels, but if you are comming up river with the tide from the Medway there will be plenty of water there.
 
If things begin to look too difficult, PM me and I can arrange to meet you somewhere in central London and drive you to a garage (assuming I'm in town).
 
That last list is a bit out of date, there is NO petrol within 20 minutes drive , by car, of Lechlade as I found out last summer !

Best option is 2 jerry cans and a folding trolley and save on marina prices.

Hampton court bridge, mooring on the left by bridge. Garage is 4 minutes walk,

Staines Bridge, about 2 mins past bridge on left there is a jetty. Moor here, walk through the office complex, about 4 or 5 mins walk there is a sainsburys with petrol.

Maidenhead Bridge, petrol station just next to bridge on the left. Moorings on the left with a nice Cafe in the park. Does a great breakfast !

Henly does have riverside petrol but was mega bucks last time I fueled there.

The other Marinas discussed all have petrol as does Racecourse Marina at Windsor.
 
I originally PM'd this to Boatone as he was going to compile a definitive list, but the most accessible petrol station MUST be the one at Truss Island, Staines, literally just across the road. You could make several jerry-can trips without breaking a sweat.

If your boat is suitable for the Thames you won't have any trouble getting in there ( I took a 27' Fjord towing a 17' Shetland in there earlier this year ), although if it is a huge deep draft thing you might think twice.
