Helicopter video of UK coastline ?

Grey cells are giving me gyp again, so I can't find my link to a (? series) film/TV of a helicopter ride round Britain's coast line. I remember it omitted certain bits such as nuclear power stations and a few Services places, but that's not a worry

I know that the OU Coast prog has some bits, but I don't want to spend a month cutting and splicing from the various series.


What I want to do this winter (i.e. next week onwards ) is plan a retirement cruise using harbours without marinas. I'm tempted to try the West Coast (Liverpool northwards to Gruinard island (an old stamping ground)) first. I've got all the Imray charts for the UK, but want to view the possible routes, and indulge in a bit of what-iffery.

why not use google earth as a first port of call?

thanks, done quite a lot of that, but I need better resolution and an oblique angle of view.

Also, Google is remarkably sparing of its data in places to the far north. Try looking at North Connel. There an blooming great bridge across the entrance to the loch, but can you see it ? No, Sir !

Probably of no use whatsoever to you but STV made their own version in 1996 The Edge of the Land. They have upgraded the site since last I visited and the new search engine seems particularly perverse since I have only been able to find the episode in the link. However the entire (well nearly) Scottish coastline was covered and I've no reason to doubt that all the episodes are still there somewhere.

(Off to watch some of the amazing Weir's Way now, if I can find it.)

i can only remember the raf jet which went around the coast, it might have been one of those bbc test films, before the tv started for the evening...

were you one of those microbiologists checking the soil in the 80's....
