Hella Series 3562 - Festoon Lamp

I recently came across a rather odd situation.

Hella Marine, 3562 navigation lights are available in both black and white external finishes. I was amazed to find that the black cased version uses a incandescent festoon lamp with metal tags soldered onto one end of the lamp. A normal standard festoon lamp will not fit into the fixture. Surprisingly, the white cased version of the 3562 uses a standard pointed end festoon lamp. Hella currently produces black fixtures with the standard festoon lamp fitted. All very confusing!

I'm actually asking if anyone knows why Hella uses two different lamps which are not interchangeable in the same light fixture.

I suggest that owners check their 3562 fixtures and see what type of lamp is actually fitted. I suggest this check as a festoon lamp with one tag end is unlikely to be widely available in remote locations. If tag ended lamps are found do carry on board spare lamps, particularly, if a cruise to remote areas is planned.

I have checked the Hella website and cannot see the special lamp sold as a spare, which rather adds to the confusion.

Regards
