Thinking of installing a 500gal. tank at home to fuel my ebby. on the boat. Anyone else thought of going down this road, and how much will oil heating cost? I think i need 28sec. oil. Dont want to get cold after next november !

28sec. oil is Kerosene and AFAIK an ebby won't run on it .

You need 35sec: Gas Oil, but being Red Diesel, C&E monitor fuel companies - who in turn want to know how you will use it and monitor your consumption; so you may have some challenges.

Odd, as it has been suggested by Eberspacher engineers that running on parafin/kerosene/28 sec is better for them. See this thread for instance....

I know of a boat with a brand new Volvo in it that has run off Heating oil for the last two seasons without problems.

A small amount of Diesel two stroke oil is added.

I think questions may be asked of heating oil tank installations where there isnt any need for heating oil ?????????

Remember there is already a system in place for looking for people running their land rovers off heating oil.

I have used heating oil in my old AQAD 41s without any noticeable difference.

When someone gets rid of their heating oil tank there is usually a 100 gals of cheap diesel up for grabs, may be a bit glupy, could be 10 years old but works fine.

I was going to pass on that one -

but I thought that I'd at least read the thread that you pointed me to.

Paraffin / kerosene was suggested as a method of cleaning the unit and then for a short time only I didn't find any suggestion for running it permanently.

Perhaps I should have posted something to the effect that an# ebber shouldn't be fuelled on Kerosene for any length of time - unless Eberspacher can be persuaded to reprogramme the unit and fit a smaller jet, but that's a bit wordy.

Thanks for your point anyway.

I bow to your superior knowledge, though it seems all the campervan folks are happily running on kerosene (not having a ready supply of red diesel to hand) without problems.

Can you run any diesel engine off domestic heating oil with a bit of 2 stroke oil ? My house heating runs off oil but my boiler engineer is adamant that my Nanni 200hp 4.390 will not like kerosene. Now I'm really confused. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
