I've just fitted a second hand Eberspacher with a separate fuel tank. It seems the heater can be run on paraffin (kerosene). In the interests of cleanliness and ease of handling I'm thinking of using paraffin as the normal fuel. Is this likely to cause any problems? Does it burn cleaner/dirtier, hotter/cooler than diesel?

A lot of people who have trouble running their eber from diesel, have eventually suceeded by going for a separate fuel tank and running it from kero. So far (touch wood) I have had no trouble running mine from my main tank, but I started with a new main tank, and I pre-filter all fuel entering the tank, and also use Fuel Set. Filter doesnt seem to get very dirty!

BTW, there is a very small fuel filter in line just before the pump, so it may be worth checking that!

I'd recommend Kerosene i.e. 28 sec. central heating oil or Jet A1 fuel if you can get it - I'm lucky as I get several jerry cans filled every time the tanker tops up our heating tank at home. It's currently c. 25p/litre in quantity and is a wonderfully clean fuel: my Taylors 079K heater runs for ever without any need for cleaning while in contrast if I use paraffin, as available from B&Q etc., it blocks up with horrendous carbon deposits after less than 1 gallon has been burned. I think you'll get slightly less output on Kero compared to diesel (or it may be the other way around..) but it is without doubt the best fuel to use.
