Heat shrink cable tubing

Ive got some of these to put on 13mm radar cable where the outer insulation has become slightly damaged at mast entry hole. Will a hairdryer suffice to shrink it or will I need a hot air gun?

hairdryer OK. Best on low speed: you can always stifle the intake if you want to up the temp to the ideal. Tubing shrinks in varous ratios, and at different temperatures, from 90C to 200C.

In that exposed situation you could do well using the heat shrink that has a resin inside, very good seal achievable.

It's usually sold as "adhesive-lined' or "glue-lined" heatshrink. It typically has a higher shrinkage ratio than the regular stuff, 3:1 rather than 2:1.

Don't forget (as I have at times) that the heat shrink will also shrink a little in length - so be a little on the generous side when cutting.

Thanks guys. I have removed it from the mast so can do it indoors, dryer should suffice then I guess.
