headsail sheets

I know it will be largely dependent on size of sails, but would you say there is a minimum size for headsail sheets - ie comfort of handling/not slicing your palms to bits?

Boat came with gigantic sheets (at least 16mm I think, but feels much bigger). I've come across some nice 10mm that would do the job and fit the winches better. Do you think it's too small for comfort?

On your boat 14m/m going any smaller you will need more turns in the winch drum + what are self tailers able to take

I believe my reef pendants are 10mm. Imagining them as jib sheets, I think they would be useable but too small for comfort. 12mm I would be happy with.
