The 1.5in waste diverted valve (sends waste overboard or to holding tank) is extremely stiff and no doubt furred up over its 15year life

I notice the standard JabscoY valve says for macerated waste only

So with what should I replace this?

Thanks

If it's anything like my toilet diverter valves, it is quite simple, though a tad unpleasant, to strip, clean, and re-assemble. (Practical Boat Owner)

I did that last year and 'chiselled' off about 10mm of encrusted crystallised furring. this year when we fitted new hoses (I knew I should have replaced the valve at the same time!) it had already built up to about 4mm. I cleaned it off again but I reckon that the wear and tear caused by operating it with - effectively - sand and grit in the works has roughened up surfaces and made it easier for further calcification to ocurr.

Therefore time to replace it with something better (I'm sure the design has improved anyway over 15 years - ideally teflon based!

Sorry but disagree with the above. We had these cheap valves fittedto our system and they were next to useless, breaking handles etc. The Jabsco valves quoted are far better. http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/90/00/00/0/0000001290.pdf

I am amazed. Did you have gorillas on board or something :D

A little pressure turns them easily, and it only a short movement. No long handle to create extra force, and as I said they are standard fit on Rustler Yachts and no complaints from all the owners I have met.

Before the valve ends up in a marina skip, why dont you treat it with "lavatory descaler"
The stickiness is probably limescale and a good soaking overnight will shift it, without having to take the whole thing apart, or replace with new
