Have a new (to me) boat with a TMC heads. Pumps out fine, but getting no suction to draw in raw water to flush.

Before I start taking the pump apart, any suggestions as to what to look for. There is definately a supply of water!

Cheers all

When I first got bought my boat I had a similar problem it seemed to be caused by an air lock due to the boat being laid up on the hard stand for some time. I managed to get it working after moving the pipes to allow the air bubble to get through. It could also be that the seals have dried out causing a lack of suction this may be helped by flushing some washing up liquid or cooking oil which will lubricate the seals or put a hose up the inlet to blow it out.

I am not familiar with the details of the TMC toilet but it looks to be a "bog standard" one. There is a common problem with marine toilets. The small lever that is used to turn the flushing water on and off works by lifting one of the valves in the upper section of the pump to stop it from operating. If left in this position for a long time it can distort the flap valve so that it does not seat properly. You can either fit a new valve or try straightening out the old one. You may find that if you can once get it working it will settle down again.

If its the one with the electric pump, that happened (exactly the same) on my neighbour's boat and it was the electric motor/pump wrongly fitted. Needed rotating one set of fastenings and the ports then lined up properly. I refitted the pump and it was fine.

After cleaning up the valves in my heads I had exactly this problem. I unhooked the anti-syphon loop from the bulkhead and lowered it to the sole to reduce the pressure head the pump had to overcome and that allowed it to prime itself. Hooked the loop back in place and it has been fine ever since (fingers crossed).
